Turning the Screws on Corruption : Prison Union Asserts "Zero Tolerance to Corruption"

Today the Corrections Association launches it new campaign called Turning the Screws on Corruption.

"There will be a Zero Tolerance approach to any Prison Officer found to be participating in any corrupt practice such as supplying prisoners with contraband" (drugs, mobile phones etc) says the Corrections Association (CANZ), the Union that represents over 2500 Corrections Officers.

Beven Hanlon, President of CANZ said today that any Officer who participated in bringing contraband into a prison, was effectively putting his or her workmates into danger and would suffer the consequences. "The job of a Prison Officer often means working in at-risk situations, and the support and back-up of workmates is essentia"” said Beven Hanlon.

The Union was aware that not all of the public hold the role of a Corrections Officer in high regard, but it was important for both the safety and security of prisoners and the general public, that the Prison Service remained a professional force that was beyond reproach said Beven Hanlon.
