CANZ

CANZ UPDATE 26 June 2003

For He’s a Bloody Good Fellow!

I will be the first to admit that I’m quick to point out shoddy workmanship on the part of PPS managers on each and every occasion that the opportunity presents itself. This, of course, means that I’m usually kept fairly busy! However, never let it be said that I’m not prepared to present the odd bouquet if circumstances dictate that it is appropriate.

Accordingly, I would bring your attention to the comments attributed to Midlands Regional Manager Peter Grant in a recent edition of the New Zealand Herald. When quizzed about the contents of a recent Departmental report that attributed some of the blame for a recent inmate escape to prisons staff, Mr. Grant defended the professionalism of staff and stated:

“ They are bloody good staff doing their job – they’re doing a bloody hard job and doing it bloody well!”

On behalf of CANZ I would like to say:

Bravo Peter Grant!

It does our hearts good to observe managers supporting and encouraging staff instead of joining the ever-growing queue to abuse, criticize and discredit. Prison staff are doing a difficult job and they do need and merit support and encouragement. May we see many more examples!
