CANZ CIE Update 27 March 2006

Hello all,

This is just a quick note to say that we have served the department with another strike notice. This notice is the reduction in the normal output of work by not completing your vehicles log sheets, PPM B.03 documentation, NZQA Unit standard 497 and Prisoner File Notes SMP.5.F2.

CIE have contacted me today to say that they have this notice. It is now a wait and see, if CIE are true to form and prepared to waste more of the money that they don’t have on challenging the strike notices instead of giving it the workers.

It is great to see all the photo’s taken during the CIE strike action the other week. Next week we have the National Executive meeting from the 4th-6th of April in Auckland. At this we hope to gather all the photos that are out there and get them put onto a dedicated “CIE Big Day Out,” page on our web site. If you have any photos please forward these to canz_admin@xtra.co.nz so we can add them to our collection.

We are still in receipt of interest from the media about this issue. We are still pushing the point that CIE have come out and said, “that if CANZ could show an industry comparator that earns more you would get a pay rise.” Well the answer to that is simple and our response is; “give us pay parity with the 8 staff on IEA’s. If that is not a justifiable comparison what is?”

Also, never fear we have many more strike notices to file in the coming weeks. As they happen we will be sending out another update.

Another thing to remember here is work is going to fall behind because of the paper work ban. If this happens it is not your job to work harder to make it up. Some one not in our union will and it is about time these people started pulling their weight and doing their fair share.

Keep your eyes pealed for the next update as we are putting an updated membership list together. This list will have the names and prisons of the people that are in our union on each site for your information.

Sent on behalf of the CANZ National Executive.
