UPDATE 28 FEB 2008

CANZ / PS COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

ITS TIME TO VOTE!

The CANZ Negotiation Team will attend a full round of Ratification Meetings at all Prison Sites during the month of March, and explain in detail the proposed offer.

A Reminder Schedule of all Meetings / Dates and Times is attached with this UPDATE.

Separate Meetings are being held for Nurses / Admin., and Corrections Officers because of the complexities of specific occupational issues that need to be discussed. Please ensure that you attend your meeting, listen to what is being offered and make an informed vote.

UNION ENDORSEMENT

The CANZ National Executive has endorsed the Negotiation Teams Final Offer position.

It is now over to the Members to vote to Accept or Reject the Offer.

The Union has taken a broad view of the proposed settlement, and while acknowledging that it is a “Going Rate” offer on the money, the Union believes that the Parties commitment to the FLEXIBLE WORK PROJECT will ultimately deliver better Remuneration and Conditions to Prison Staff, during the Term of the Agreement.

A vote in favour of the current proposal will see immediate minor improvements to the Salaries and Conditions, but more importantly, it will enable CANZ and the Department to move forward on addressing a wide range of issues that will ultimately benefit all Prison Staff.

A vote against the current proposal will ultimately mean Industrial Action on the part of Prison Staff. The Departments Advocates have made it very clear that the final offer in respect to this negotiation, is in fact their final offer.

The CANZ National Executive is not prepared to sit on the fence!

This is not the greatest offer ever made, but taking into account everything that is being offered it is certainly not the worst, and if ratified, it allows the parties the opportunity to work constructively towards improving the working conditions of all Prison Staff.
