The CANZ National Executive consists of 4 National Officers (nominated and elected by members country wide) and 13 Executive Members (nominated and elected by members within those regions). The National Executive meet every 4 months, during which issues and matters of concern are discussed and if required resolutions are voted on to be put forth to the membership.CANZ is now affiliated with the NZCTU and the POAA.(Prison Officers Association Australia)
As with any trade union the Corrections Association of New Zealand is concerned with the pay and conditions of its members. The work of Correction Officers is difficult and often dangerous. Correction Officers come across many different situations in their daily working lives that other members of the general public do not come across. These include incidents of suicide and self-mutilation, assaults, attacks on staff and many other varied situations. Your working conditions are not limited to a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. The quality of your working conditions can become a matter of life or death in this industry and our Association has a proud history of strong advocacy for our members and their working conditions. Unfortunately the dangers in our workplaces are not limited to the physical or mental kind. In today’s world a Corrections Officer can easily find themselves responding to all manner of outrageous allegations from prisoners, members of the public or even our own employers. It is vital that you in your role as a Corrections Officer can have confidence in the organization you choose to represent you. There is no better organization to represent a Corrections Officer than an organization that was built by Corrections Officers and which is run by Corrections Officers for Corrections Officers.

Some of our Goals are:

•To promote the interests and welfare of all Corrections Officers in New Zealand.

•To preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members.

•To mitigate the hazards of members' employment and improve working conditions.

•To raise the social, civic, and intellectual standing of members.

You are a Correction Officer, be proud of your achievements, be proud of your Association and know we’ll be there when you need us.
